About

Hooked on county cricket – and Middlesex in particular? You’ve come to the right place.

Up The Middle is a new, independent website powered by CounterPress, dedicated to the undulating fortunes – and sometimes misfortunes – of Middlesex County Cricket Club.

Over the coming weeks and months, we’ll be bringing you features, interviews, comment and news, focused unerringly on the Seaxes’ men’s and women’s teams as they gear up for another summer of cricket action.

Once the season gets under way – and it’s not all that far off now – you’ll also be able to read in-depth analysis and reaction to events on the pitch.

In addition to that, we’ll also be taking the odd stroll down memory lane to recall significant moments and seasons in the county’s history. Most cricket fans, after all, can usually agree that things were better ‘back in my day’!

The site is run by Jon Batham and Ben Kosky, experienced journalists who have reported on Middlesex for almost 40 years between them and followed the county as supporters for far longer.

Jon, who is also an audio commentator, previously reported on Middlesex as correspondent for Trinity Mirror’s regional newspaper titles, while Ben, who filled a similar role for the Archant group, has also covered cricket for the BBC and Sky’s online platforms.

Jon and Ben co-authored Middlesex CCC The Championship Years, which was published in 2023 and chronicles each of the county’s 13 red-ball title successes to date. The book is available now!

We look forward to the pleasure of your company as we proudly proclaim: Up The Middle!
