Middlesex’s opening game of the 2026 County Championship season is looming large with nine days to go until the first ball is bowled.

Earlier this week we assessed the credentials of four of their promotion rivals, Derbyshire, Durham, Gloucestershire and Kent.

However, Lancashire, Northamptonshire and Worcestershire will also be in there pitching for the title and a place back in domestic cricket’s top tier. Here’s our take on their respective squads.

The Red Rose county failed to justify pre-season favouritism last time around, making a bit of a Horlicks (other hot beverages are of course available) of the task, eventually finishing in mid-table.
