Max Holden and Josh de Caires’ second-wicket partnership of 95 from 54 balls underpinned a formidable total of 213-4 after Middlesex had been put in at Hove.
Although Holden (77 from 41) probably missed out on a century that was his for the taking, De Caires followed up his best T20 performance of 80 not out from 44 with two very useful overs of off-spin that included the key wicket of Tom Alsop.
