A pep talk from mum proved the inspiration for Naavya Sharma’s List-A career-best 4-29 in yesterday’s Metro Bank One-Day Cup demolition of Glamorgan at Radlett.
The 20-year-old seamer had been reticent about acquiring a tag as the destroyer of the tail, born of getting the final two wickets with successive balls in both of Middlesex’s previous wins in this season’s competition.
While that’s far from a bad habit for a quick bowler, it seems mum egged her son on to get some new-ball scalps, so allowing Middlesex to seize the early initiative in a game while enhancing his own burgeoning reputation at the same time.
