Joe Cracknell believes Middlesex fans are beginning to see the fruit of two years of unseen hard graft where his career is concerned.

Middlesex’s wicketkeeper/batter smote eight fours in a counter-attacking unbeaten 58 from 68 balls to put the hosts in the ascendancy on the opening day of the Rothesay County Championship Division Two season against Gloucestershire at Lord’s.

Cracknell added an unbeaten 85 for the fifth wicket with skipper Leus Du Plooy, who finished 98 not out, to allow Middlesex to end the day at 279-5 when their innings had been teetering at 194-5 a little over an hour previously.

For Durham University graduate Cracknell it continues an upward curve from the middle of the last campaign which included a maiden hundred against Northamptonshire and several other significant contributions.
