Fulton: Batting collapses key to Kent defeat

Peter Fulton pointed to top order batting collapses as the reason for Middlesex’s damaging 49-run defeat to promotion-chasing Kent yesterday.
Set 231 to win – the lowest score of the match – after bowling out Kent for 257 early on the final morning, the Seaxes capitulated to 47-4 and despite a second half century of the game from Zafar Gohar (66 not out) they never threatened to chase down the target.
It was the second time the top order had crumbled in the match, Middlesex having been 52-4 in their first innings.
