Being denied promotion to Tier One of the women’s game was probably a blessing in disguise for Middlesex according to skipper Saskia Horley.

Middlesex enjoyed a stellar season in the second tier, sweeping all before them in the T20 format, including crushing both Leicestershire and Yorkshire on finals day, while for much of the season they looked favourites for the One-Day Cup before bowing out at the hands of the White Rose county in the semi-finals.

Nevertheless, with promotion having been pre-determined by the ECB, it was the Tykes who progressed to Tier One ahead of curtain-up on the 2026 campaign.

Tough to take you might think, but on the contrary, Horley views it as a positive that her charges get to build on the good work done in 2025 under head coach Marc Broom in less high-profile waters.
