Sam Robson’s pre-season musings look to be coming back to haunt Middlesex after another heavily truncated day against Derbyshire at Derby.
Ryan Higgins took wickets with successive balls to help reduce the hosts to 79-3 at lunch after skipper Leus du Plooy won the toss and invited them to bat first.
However, the rain which washed out the whole of day one’s action returned during the interval, meaning only three more balls were possible with no addition to the score.
Both sides desperately need a win to revive dwindling promotion hopes, but with the forecast remaining grim for day’s three and four a result looks unlikely.
