Duke enjoys battle but maiden century proves in vain

Harry Duke revealed he’d relished his battle with Brydon Carse after making his maiden first-class hundred in a losing cause for Middlesex against Durham yesterday.
The diminutive wicketkeeper/ batter defied the England paceman and his teammates for 11 minutes shy of three hours, reaching his landmark of 100 not out just prior to running out of partners.
Defeat for Middlesex all but ended their already slim hopes of promotion while confirming their hosts would return to the top flight after just one season in Division Two, almost certainly going up as champions.
Nevertheless, his century was a great milestone for Duke, the Yorkshireman on loan with the Lord’s tenants as cover for the injured Joe Cracknell, and it seems he enjoyed the scrap as well as the achievement.
