How it unfolded
Max Holden and Josh de Caires’ second-wicket partnership of 95 from 54 balls underpinned a formidable total of 213-4 after Middlesex had been put in at Hove.
Although Holden (77 from 41) probably missed out on a century that was his for the taking, De Caires followed up his best T20 performance of 80 not out from 44 with two very useful overs of off-spin that included the key wicket of Tom Alsop.
Alsop’s stand of 67 from 44 with James Coles had kept the Sharks in contention, but Zafar Gohar and Luke Hollman applied the brakes and Tom Helm (3-41) took two wickets in as many balls as the home side were bowled out for 182.
