Peter Fulton expressed pride in Middlesex’s efforts to force a result on the final day of their County Championship visit to Derby – even though the weather ultimately scuppered hopes of victory.
The Seaxes gambled by taking the unusual step of forfeiting their turn to bat after bowling Derbyshire out for just 131, aiming to roll their opponents cheaply for a second time and set up a late run chase.
Eventually Middlesex had to settle for a draw that keeps them some way off the pace in terms of promotion, with Derbyshire reaching 111-3 second time around before the rain – which had restricted play to a single session across the first three days – returned.
