Middlesex head coach Peter Fulton feels the pressure of competition from younger bowling rivals has helped to trigger Tom Helm’s renaissance as a key figure in their four-day line-up.
The 32-year-old has featured more as a white-ball player in recent times and was allowed to join Leicestershire on a brief loan deal earlier this season after making a solitary appearance in Middlesex’s first six County Championship fixtures.
But Helm now looks more like an automatic selection for the Seaxes in the longer format, having played in all their last five red-ball games and increased his tally of Championship wickets this season to 28.
