Whatever else Middlesex manage, or don’t manage to accomplish this season, the county have at least made significant strides in terms of ticking one particular box.
It’s eight years since Dawid Malan made his final Test appearance as a Middlesex player, against India at Edgbaston – the last time a Seaxes representative donned a full England cap in the longest format of the game.
But Middlesex have also been worryingly under-represented in terms of England Lions call-ups and younger age groups during recent times – until this season, anyway.
Four first-teamers – Caleb Falconer, Ben Geddes, Naavya Sharma and Noah Cornwell – have featured for the Lions against South Africa, with Falconer also involved in the youth ODI series alongside Jack Nelson, who is yet to make his senior Middlesex debut.
