Every day is still a school day for Middlesex seamer Naavya Sharma as he continues to take his initial steps into first-class cricket.

The 20-year-old right-armer in only his fifth game at this level was presented with a green-top for Middlesex’s County Championship Division Two clash with Worcestershire at Lord’s. The prospect is enough to make even the most experienced of pacemen salivate at the prospect of getting the ripe cherry in their hand.

Sharma claimed the scalps of Adam Hose and Gareth Roderick in returning 2-45 as Worcester were bowled out for 191.

He believes there was a time he might have got a little giddy faced with such a strip to bowl on, but that the wisdom of older and wiser heads around him is rubbing off. Consequently, he’s slowly learning to resist the temptation to bowl miracle balls in such circumstances, and instead, that playing the long game, is the way to go.
