Jack Nelson is a self-confessed lover of the puzzles posed by cricket – and on the evidence of his Lord’s debut for Middlesex, he’s handy at solving them.
The England U19 all-rounder lit up the home of cricket in what was only his second List-A appearance for the county, top-scoring with 76 from 69 balls to rescue the hosts from the perils of 121-5 as they went on to beat Yorkshire by 35 runs and so return to the top of Metro Bank One Day Cup Group B.
Nelson, who scored a century against South Africa U19s earlier this summer, clearly revelled amid the crisis, unfurling some classy drives and slog sweeping Tykes quick Jack White into the Mound Stand.
