Middlesex must shelve any thoughts of next month’s Metro Bank One-Day Cup final and concentrate on maintaining their flagging hopes of County Championship promotion, says red-ball captain Leus du Plooy.
Du Plooy’s side face an uphill task to force their way back into the battle for a top two spot in the Championship’s second tier after coming up short on the final afternoon of their clash with Kent.
The second-placed visitors’ 46-run victory at Merchant Taylors’ School took them a hefty 37 points clear of Middlesex, who dropped to fifth in the table following Worcestershire’s win at bottom side Gloucestershire.
