'One swallow doesn't make a summer' - Middlesex legend assesses One-Day Cup achievement

Middlesex must prove themselves year on year before they can be hailed as a successful one-day side, according to Seaxes legend Roland Butcher.
Butcher, who featured in four limited-overs finals for Middlesex during the 1980s – securing silverware each time – joined the inaugural Up The Middle podcast to discuss the upcoming Metro Bank One-Day Cup final against Leicestershire.
He said: ““One swallow doesn’t make a summer. If this team goes on next year and the year after, then that is proof.
“We’ve had a good season, we must recognise that – but that’s all we’ve had, nothing more.
“This Middlesex side have got to show that what they’ve achieved this year was not a fluke – it can happen again and will happen again.”
Along with Up The Middle writers Jon Batham and Ben Kosky, Butcher gives his thoughts on Middlesex’s prospects and how they should handle team selection for Sunday’s showdown at Trent Bridge.
He also reveals which player from the current line-up he thinks would have been a key asset to the Middlesex team of his own era – and vice-versa.
